New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) Maruti Suzuki India Limited declared on Wednesday that it has made significant strides in enhancing its gender diversity, with the total number of female employees across various roles exceeding 1,300. This achievement is largely attributed to the increased hiring of women on the shopfloor at its Gurugram and Manesar facilities.

Over the past two years, the company has successfully focused on ramping up the recruitment of women in the fields of vehicle manufacturing, as well as in engine and transmission positions.

These newly hired women are actively engaged on the shopfloor, undertaking essential tasks along assembly lines and in quality control processes, where precision and consistency are vital.

Maruti Suzuki ensures that female employees receive the same quality of on-the-job training and skill development programs as their male colleagues, thereby fostering equal opportunities for career advancement within the organization.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, remarked that the company has traditionally showcased a commendable representation of women across various departments, including engineering, marketing and sales, finance, legal, logistics, and supply chain.

He stressed, however, that genuine integration is best observed on the shopfloor, where employees are directly involved in producing high-quality vehicles.

“Real integration occurs on the shopfloor when they contribute to building top-notch vehicles with precision and care. It is my personal aspiration to enhance the representation of women at this level,” Takeuchi noted.

Additionally, the company is committed to further increasing women’s roles in manufacturing and has implemented numerous measures to create a supportive environment.

A thorough internal assessment was completed to identify specific needs, leading to upgrades in infrastructure aimed at enhancing convenience and safety.

These initiatives encompass dedicated restrooms, changing facilities, crèche services, and improved security measures, including guards and patrolling for evening shifts.

Moreover, the company has initiated sensitization programs for employees to nurture an inclusive workplace culture and promote openness among teams.

Maruti Suzuki also mandates full participation in Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) training to strengthen workplace safety and awareness.
