Nitin Gadkari Acknowledges Amazon's Commitment to Empowering Businesses from Urban to Rural India

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, emphasized on Tuesday that the government appreciates Amazon's initiatives to utilize its logistics capabilities throughout India, empowering enterprises from urban centers to rural areas. This statement came as the e-commerce leader unveiled a range of initiatives aimed at achieving ‘Viksit Bharat’.
During the fifth edition of its annual ‘Smbhav Summit’ in the national capital, the e-commerce giant pledged to quadruple its export commitment, aiming for over $80 billion in cumulative exports from India by 2030. Additionally, the company allocated $120 million from its ‘Smbhav Venture Fund’ to support startups focused on digitizing consumer goods.
In his keynote speech at the event, Minister Gadkari remarked that such partnerships from the private sector are critical for enhancing innovation, increasing exports, and fortifying logistics infrastructure, which are essential for India's ambition to become a global economic leader.
The ‘Smbhav Venture Fund’ also established a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to expedite the government's priority of transforming the country into a global manufacturing hub and generating thousands of jobs.
Furthermore, the company plans to provide its reliable, world-class, and cost-effective logistics services to businesses nationwide.
“As one of the world's fastest-growing economies, India represents a crucial market for Amazon, and our focus areas align seamlessly with the government’s vision and priorities of digitizing small businesses, enhancing exports, and generating employment,” stated Amazon's Senior VP for Emerging Markets, Amit Agarwal.
The company also introduced ‘Amazon Freight’ for intra-city and inter-city transportation services nationwide, offering full truckload options ranging from 5 feet to 40 feet to meet diverse capacity needs, alongside 'Amazon Shipping' for last-mile delivery solutions.
Previously, the company had committed to digitizing 10 million MSMEs, achieving $20 billion in cumulative exports from India, and creating 2 million jobs in India by 2025.
