No Rise in Petrol and Diesel Prices as India's Energy Stocks Stabilize: Government Sources
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) - According to government officials, there will be no rise in petrol and diesel prices, as India's energy stock situation is showing improvement and is becoming increasingly stable.
These officials indicated that the enhanced energy stock situation has bolstered the government's confidence in effectively managing fuel supplies.
Furthermore, India has taken significant measures to diversify its crude oil imports to lessen reliance on vulnerable routes.
"India has raised its crude oil imports from sources beyond the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, around 60 percent of India's crude oil came from outside this strategic shipping lane, but this figure has now climbed to approximately 70 percent," they noted.
"The first cargo has already begun transit through the Strait of Hormuz, signaling a stabilization in supply flows," they added.
This clarification from the government was issued after opposition parties raised concerns about potential increases in fuel prices.
In response to these allegations, government officials firmly stated that the claims were entirely unfounded.
They emphasized that previous assurances specifically pertained to petrol and diesel prices and did not extend to LPG.
Government sources reiterated that there will be no hike in petrol and diesel prices.
"This assurance is solely for petrol and diesel. It does not apply to LPG. We reaffirm today that petrol and diesel prices will remain unchanged," they confirmed.
Regarding cooking gas, officials mentioned that the government is currently focusing on re-prioritizing LPG production to ensure sufficient supply.
"Over the past 12 years, the price of a Liquefied Petroleum Gas cylinder has risen by approximately Rs 110," they reported.
"The government is diligently monitoring the energy landscape and taking necessary steps to sustain stability in fuel supplies and prices," the sources concluded.
