Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, April 2 (NationPress) On Thursday, the Odisha government engaged in discussions with top officials from leading oil and gas companies to enhance the distribution of LPG and other petroleum products statewide.
The high-level meeting took place under the leadership of the Minister of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Krushna Chandra Patra, alongside the Minister of Housing & Urban Development, Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.
Attended by Principal Secretary of the Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, and other senior officials, the meeting aimed to expedite the adoption of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and implement strict digital measures for consumer protection.
Minister Patra issued a strong warning regarding black-marketing and irregularities within the supply chain during the discussions.
The state government announced that, to ensure transparency, gas agencies must implement biometric authentication, employing both fingerprint and iris scans for all deliveries.
Additionally, the Food Supplies Minister clarified that upon receiving a PNG connection, households would need to decommission their existing LPG connections to optimize resource use.
District Collectors have been instructed to provide comprehensive administrative support to gas companies to facilitate the necessary infrastructure changes for the swift installation of pipelines.
Urban Development Minister Mahapatra, also present in the meeting, stressed the urgency of reducing urban centers' reliance on heavy LPG use.
He called upon all government and commercial entities to promptly transition to PNG connections, assuring that the Housing & Urban Development Department would expedite clearances for these changes.
Highlighting the cultural importance of local events, the Minister specifically instructed officials to prioritize PNG infrastructure in Puri to accommodate the anticipated demand during the approaching Rath Yatra festival.
To address the issue of "ghost deliveries," where consumers receive inaccurate delivery notifications, Principal Secretary Singh directed agencies to ensure full compliance with the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system.
He also reassured that there is no need for concern regarding gas availability, as the government is continuously monitoring the situation via a 24-hour control room.
Officials from oil companies confirmed that they are maintaining a consistent five-day buffer stock and are providing real-time inventory updates to the department daily.
Furthermore, the state government has identified schools, Anganwadis, Ahaar Kendras, and hospitals as priority sectors for uninterrupted gas supply.
