Odisha Government Simplifies City Gas Distribution Approvals for Clean Energy Boost
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, March 25 (NationPress) In an effort to accelerate the development of clean energy infrastructure in urban Odisha, the State Housing and Urban Development Department has enacted a decisive order aimed at streamlining and hastening the approval protocols for City Gas Distribution (CGD) initiatives.
As noted in an official press release on Wednesday, this directive was unveiled by Usha Padhee, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department and Chairperson of IDCO. This move underscores the State Government’s dedication to fostering a gas-centric economy while improving access to clean and efficient fuel in urban regions.
In accordance with the order, Urban Local Bodies are instructed to eliminate permission fees associated with the installation of underground pipelines and related CGD infrastructure.
No new permissions will be necessary for ongoing or previously approved projects, thus eliminating procedural bottlenecks and ensuring uninterrupted project progress.
To further expedite advancements in this sector, the state government has mandated timely approvals, directing all relevant authorities to promptly process applications.
Additionally, limitations on road-cutting during specific times have been relaxed for CGD initiatives to prevent interruptions and support consistent implementation.
While promoting execution efficiency, the directive also enforces accountability. CGD companies will bear the responsibility for restoring roads and infrastructure at their own expense, meeting the established standards.
The Director of Municipal Administration has been appointed as the primary authority to coordinate and oversee CGD-related activities statewide.
All departments, including Works, Water Resources, Energy, and Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, are encouraged to provide comprehensive support to ensure effective implementation at the community level.
These measures will remain effective until June 30, 2026, or until further notice.
This initiative is poised to significantly expedite the deployment of PNG connections, advocate for cleaner fuel utilization, and enhance urban infrastructure, thereby aiding Odisha’s transition toward a sustainable, energy-efficient future.
