Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, February 23 (NationPress) - The ‘Parishkriti’ handloom exhibition is offering weavers and artisans an esteemed opportunity to connect directly with high-end customers while enhancing their market visibility, stated Dr. M. Beena, Development Commissioner (Handlooms) on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, Dr. Beena elaborated that the core concept of ‘Parishkriti’ is to unite talented weavers and professionals from various regions of India at a notable location in the capital city.
“By hosting the exhibition in a prime area, we ensure increased exposure and enhanced sales prospects, while also assisting artisans in grasping broader market dynamics and consumer tastes,” she clarified.
“This marks the second consecutive year that we are organizing this exhibition at the same location, following a successful event last year,” she shared with IANS.
Dr. Beena mentioned that the Ministry aims to establish this exhibition as an annual event to cultivate a robust identity and brand recognition over time.
She stressed that events of this nature not only generate sales but also foster long-lasting brand visibility and market understanding.
“The exhibition serves as an effective bridge connecting rural weavers with urban elite buyers,” she remarked.
The week-long ‘Parishkriti’ handloom exhibition is taking place from February 22 to 28, 2026, at the India International Centre in New Delhi.
This initiative seeks to offer a specialized platform for handloom artisans and weavers nationwide, allowing them to present and sell their creations directly to consumers, eliminating the need for intermediaries.
National Award recipient Angika Kushwaha, who earned her accolade in 2023 for promoting handloom products, is representing Varanasi at the event.
She emphasized that this occasion enables artisans to engage directly with purchasers, ensuring that customers obtain authentic products at reasonable prices.
Another National Award winner, Khokan Nandi from West Bengal, underscored the global acclaim of Bengal’s Jamdani sarees.
Nandi noted that with the backing of the Ministry of Textiles and the Indian Government, the handloom sector is now gaining renewed focus.
