New Delhi, Aug 19 (NationPress) The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, initiated to enhance India’s manufacturing capacity and stimulate exports, has granted approval to 806 applications spanning 14 sectors thus far, as reported to Parliament on Tuesday. As of July, a total of Rs 1,856 crore in incentives has been allocated in the current financial year, elevating the total disbursement since the scheme's inception to over Rs 21,600 crore, according to Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in a written response during a Lok Sabha session.
The PLI initiatives, with a comprehensive budget of Rs 1.97 lakh crore, aim to bolster the global competitiveness of Indian industries and attract substantial investments, the Union Minister remarked.
“The sectors that have received approval encompass electronics, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, textiles, food processing, solar modules, specialty steel, medical devices, telecom, and drones, among others,” he elaborated.
By June, investments amounting to Rs 1.90 lakh crore have been realized through the PLI schemes.
This has resulted in additional production and sales exceeding Rs 17 lakh crore, while exports have surpassed Rs 7.5 lakh crore.
Moreover, the scheme has generated over 12.3 lakh direct and indirect jobs nationwide.
Both electronics and pharmaceuticals have emerged as significant beneficiaries. For example, mobile phone production has seen a remarkable 146 percent increase in value from 2020-21 to 2024-25, with mobile exports jumping nearly eightfold, from Rs 22,870 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 2 lakh crore by 2024-25.
The pharmaceutical sector has recorded cumulative sales of Rs 2.66 lakh crore over three years, with exports contributing Rs 1.70 lakh crore.
During this timeframe, India has transitioned from being a net importer of bulk drugs to a net exporter.
The government has implemented measures such as quarterly disbursements, online application processes, simplified compliance standards, and expedited regulatory approvals to guarantee timely assistance under the scheme.
The administration emphasized that the PLI scheme has had a broad impact, yielding noticeable improvements in production, exports, and employment across various sectors.
