New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to officially launch SEMICON India 2025 on Tuesday, a significant initiative aimed at establishing India as a leading global center for semiconductor innovation and manufacturing.

With over 350 exhibiting companies from 33 countries and regions, this event will gather a record number of international stakeholders. SEMICON India 2025 is being co-hosted by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI, a prominent global semiconductor industry organization. This three-day event aims to unite industry leaders, innovators, academia, government representatives, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and technological progress throughout the entire supply chain.

In just four years since the inception of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in 2021, India has successfully transitioned its semiconductor aspirations into tangible achievements. The government has introduced a substantial Rs 76,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program, with nearly Rs 65,000 crore already allocated.

On August 28, India marked a significant achievement in its semiconductor journey with the inauguration of one of its first end-to-end Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Pilot Line Facilities in Sanand, Gujarat. The semiconductor firm CG-Semi is anticipated to produce the first ‘Made in India’ chip from this facility.

Whether in design, packaging, or fabrication, India is committed to realizing its ambitions across all foundational aspects of semiconductor production. Through the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, 23 chip design initiatives have received approval to support startups and innovators. Companies such as Vervesemi Microelectronics are developing advanced chips for defense, aerospace, electric vehicles, and energy systems, demonstrating that India is evolving from a consumer to a creator.

SEMICON India plays a vital role in advancing the goals of ISM by facilitating international collaborations, promoting research commercialisation, enhancing skill development, and showcasing India’s increasing potential within the global semiconductor value chain. To date, three editions of SEMICON India have taken place: in 2022 (Bengaluru), 2023 (Gandhinagar), and 2024 (Greater Noida). SEMICON India 2025 will highlight India’s transformative role in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

The event will host approximately 350 exhibitors, anticipate over 15,000 visitors, feature 6 country roundtables, 4 country pavilions, and participation from 9 Indian states, creating South Asia’s largest platform for the semiconductor and electronics sectors.

Highlighting India’s progress in semiconductors, the event will showcase 10 approved strategic projects including High-Volume Fabs, Advanced Packaging, Compound Semiconductors, OSATs, and government support for research and startups.

Under the theme “Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse”, the event will offer valuable insights into innovations and trends in critical areas such as Fabs, Advanced Packaging, smart manufacturing, AI, supply chain management, sustainability, workforce development, designs, and startups.

Over the course of three days, the program will feature six international roundtables, engaging discussions, and presentations aimed at addressing future semiconductor challenges.

More than 280 academic institutions and over 70 startups are supported by cutting-edge design tools and incentives like the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme to foster indigenous innovation.

The global semiconductor market is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030, with India poised to capture a significant portion of this growth.

India is well-positioned to become a key player in the three main pillars of the semiconductor manufacturing supply chain: Equipment – utilizing a strong base of MSMEs to produce components for semiconductor equipment; Materials - leveraging its rich resources of chemicals, minerals, and gases for semiconductor supply chain applications; and Services (R&D, logistics, supply chain, and a major talent pool in AI, big data, cloud computing, and IoT).

Point of View

It is essential to recognize the strategic significance of SEMICON India 2025. This event not only showcases India's growing capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing but also reinforces our commitment to becoming a self-reliant nation in critical technology sectors. It highlights the collaborative efforts between government, industry, and academia to pave the way for India's emergence as a leader in the global semiconductor landscape.
