New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) Renowned Indian fast bowler Jhulan Goswami has expressed her enthusiasm over the remarkable four-fold surge in the total prize money for the upcoming 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, deeming it a monumental advancement for women’s cricket.

“I feel a rush of excitement. This is an excellent development. I truly want to extend my gratitude to the ICC. Their initiative is commendable, and I believe it will significantly uplift women’s cricket. Young aspiring cricketers will certainly benefit from this,” she shared in a video released on ICC’s Instagram.

“This will also encourage parents, as they can envision a future where their children can pursue sports professionally. Overall, this is fantastic news for women’s cricket, and I am confident it will inspire all players,” she added.

The forthcoming Women’s ODI World Cup boasts an unprecedented prize pool of 13.88 million USD, which is nearly four times the 3.5 million USD offered during the previous tournament in New Zealand in 2022. This amount also exceeds the 10 million USD allocated for the Men’s ODI World Cup held in India in 2023.

The champions of this 13th edition will receive a cash prize of 4.48 million USD, reflecting a staggering 239 percent increase from the 1.32 million USD awarded to Australia in 2022. The runners-up will take home 2.24 million USD, a 273 percent rise from the 600,000 USD England secured three years prior. Each of the two losing semifinalists will earn 1.12 million USD, up from 300,000 USD in the last edition.

Each team participating is guaranteed 250,000 USD, with an additional 34,314 USD for every victory in the group stage. Teams finishing fifth and sixth will receive 700,000 USD each, while those in seventh and eighth place will earn 280,000 USD each.

This rise in prize money aligns with the ICC’s strategy to foster the growth of women’s cricket, particularly following the introduction of pay parity ahead of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. The 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup will kick off with the clash between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30.
