New Delhi, Dec 28 (NationPress) The government disclosed on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated, laid the groundwork, and officially dedicated 28 significant projects valued at Rs 3,921 crore under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) this year.
Looking ahead to 2024, ESIC has also granted in-principal approval for the creation of 10 new ESIC medical colleges located in Andheri (Maharashtra), Basaidarapur (Delhi), Guwahati-Beltola (Assam), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Ludhiana (Punjab), Naroda-Bapunagar (Gujarat), Noida, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ranchi (Jharkhand).
In the past decade, ESIC has approved the establishment of 97 new ESI hospitals throughout the nation.
To enhance access to quality healthcare nationwide, ESIC is currently working on a collaboration with Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
This initiative is set to benefit over 14.43 crore ESI beneficiaries and their families. ESI beneficiaries will have the opportunity to access secondary and tertiary services at over 30,000 AB-PMJAY-empanelled hospitals, with no financial limits on treatment expenses, as stated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
In October, a total of 17.80 lakh new employees were registered under the ESIC scheme. The year-on-year review highlighted a 3 percent growth in net registrations compared to the same month last year.
Among the 17.80 lakh employees added during that month, approximately 8.50 lakh employees, representing about 47.75 percent of total registrations, were aged 25 years or younger. The gender analysis of payroll data revealed that the net enrolment of female members was 3.52 lakh in October.
The government noted that the ESI scheme currently provides medical care through 165 hospitals, 1,590 dispensaries, 105 dispensary-cum-branch-offices (DCBOs), and around 2,900 empanelled private hospitals. Over the last decade, the ESI scheme has been implemented in 687 districts out of 788 districts in the country, a significant increase from 393 districts in 2014.
