New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) India’s artificial intelligence (AI) startup sector is experiencing significant growth, largely fueled by the swift uptake of AI-driven software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings, as indicated by a recent report released on Wednesday.
The Indian government has pledged a substantial Rs 2,000 crore towards the IndiaAI initiative, alongside a remarkable 82% increase in funding for AI Centres of Excellence, showcasing a vigorous commitment to enhancing AI infrastructure.
SaaS has become the leading force shaping India’s AI environment, with enterprise AI spending skyrocketing sixfold year-on-year (YoY) to $13.8 billion in 2024, up from $2.3 billion in 2023.
According to the SenseAI’s ‘InvestAI 2025’ report, nearly 66% of AI startups in India concentrate on AI-powered applications, with Enterprise AI SaaS at the forefront of this sector.
These firms are poised to revolutionize the software industry by transitioning from traditional subscription models to pricing frameworks based on outcomes.
“AI SaaS companies are already valued at 2X the multiple of non-AI SaaS companies. AI-first enterprises are scaling faster than ever,” stated Rahul Agarwalla, Managing Partner at SenseAI.
The analysis of 849 AI startups reveals that India is prioritizing AI applications and tooling. “The forthcoming wave of AI innovation will depend on how India constructs its AI infrastructure,” he remarked.
Another notable trend is the emergence of Edge AI, which enables AI to operate directly on devices without depending on cloud services.
Investments in Edge AI are predicted to soar from $21 billion to $143 billion by 2034, as AI-enabled applications in smartphones, wearables, and IoT devices are anticipated to rise.
This transition is enhancing accessibility to AI and unlocking new revenue opportunities within consumer technology.
The media and gaming sectors are also undergoing a transformation, as generative AI continues to redefine content creation, according to the report.
Moreover, AI tooling startups, which facilitate the optimization and scaling of AI deployment, are gaining momentum, comprising 22% of India’s AI startup ecosystem.
The report indicates that the next five years will be pivotal in establishing India’s role in the global AI competition—not merely as a consumer of AI but as a pioneer in AI-first enterprises.
