Seoul, Jan 11 (NationPress) South Korea has sought the enthusiastic involvement of business leaders from the United States at the forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) events taking place in South Korea this year, as reported by the foreign ministry on Saturday.
During an annual assembly of the U.S. National Center for APEC in San Francisco on Friday (US time), Yoon Seong-mee, the chair of the 2025 APEC Senior Officials' Meeting, showcased Seoul's preparations for hosting the 2025 APEC summit and called for active interest and participation from US business leaders.
South Korea is set to host the 2025 APEC summit in Gyeongju, approximately 270 kilometers south of Seoul, according to reports from Yonhap news agency.
The center is a US-based entity that promotes high-level dialogues between the public and private sectors within the APEC region. Its membership comprises over 40 prominent companies, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Visa, and Qualcomm.
Yoon elaborated on South Korea's agenda for hosting over 200 meetings at the upcoming event in Gyeongju, which will feature leader and minister-level conferences along with a CEO summit. She also highlighted that Seoul is dedicated to ensuring the smooth execution of these events.
In addition, South Korea affirmed its commitment to ensuring that the impending leaders' meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member states remains unaffected by the ongoing political turmoil surrounding President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment.
"The APEC meeting represents the highest-level international assembly to be hosted by our nation, independent of individual figures such as the president or a minister," a foreign ministry representative stated.
"Regardless of any leadership changes, our position as the host nation remains steadfast. It should not be swayed by political factors, and the government will exert every effort to ensure this is the case," the official added.
South Korea plans to send official invitations to leaders of the member states around May and June.
