Seoul, Sep 21 (NationPress) The South Korean government and its business sector are intensifying efforts to attract global tycoons for business events accompanying the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, as reported by industry sources on Sunday.
Jointly organized by the ministry of industry and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), the APEC CEO Summit is slated for October 28 to 31 in Gyeongju, located approximately 275 kilometers southeast of Seoul. This event will welcome around 1,700 participants from APEC member economies and international corporations, according to Yonhap news agency.
Market analysts are closely monitoring the potential presence of Jensen Huang, the CEO of the global chip powerhouse Nvidia Corp., after it was indicated that he responded positively to an invitation from SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, who also leads the KCCI.
Another industry insider shared that Huang is scheduled to lead a special session on October 31 during a separate event focused on the artificial intelligence sector.
Should Huang travel to South Korea next month, he may also engage with APEC member leaders and potentially tour the manufacturing facilities of South Korean technology giants Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix Inc.
As a frontrunner in the AI chip market, Nvidia has become an essential collaborator for various nations and enterprises in the current AI surge.
Other notable business figures who might attend the APEC-related events in South Korea include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, whose organization runs one of the globe's most widely-used generative AI models, ChatGPT, and opened its Seoul office this month.
OpenAI Korea marks the company's 12th global office and its third in Asia.
Furthermore, South Korea is actively seeking to host Chinese business leaders, including Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu, as Beijing is set to hold the APEC meeting next year, as per the report.
