Seoul, Sep 28 (NationPress) The upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Gyeongju, set for October 28-31, is poised to bring significant attention to artificial intelligence (AI). A key point of interest is whether influential executives from Nvidia, OpenAI, and other prominent technology firms will participate in this event.

This summit, an official side gathering of the APEC leaders' multilateral summit in Gyeongju, approximately 330 kilometers southeast of Seoul, is being organized by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), as reported by Yonhap news agency.

As the secretariat for the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) for this summit, the KCCI plays a vital role in facilitating recommendations from business leaders to their governments, which may include initiatives aimed at reducing trade barriers.

Efforts are underway by government and business leaders to finalize attendance from high-profile executives, whose presence could elevate AI as a central theme of the event.

Leading the list of anticipated attendees is Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Although an Nvidia representative stated that arrangements are not yet set, industry insiders suggest Huang's participation is "most likely confirmed."

KCCI Chairman Chey Tae-won, who also heads SK Group, personally invited Huang during a business roundtable at a summit between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.

Huang reportedly expressed a positive response, with sources indicating he is preparing to spearhead a dedicated AI session on the summit's final day.

In addition, he may hold separate discussions with the South Korean president and other national leaders, along with potential visits to semiconductor facilities owned by Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix Inc.

Another significant figure under scrutiny is OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Chey also reportedly invited Altman during a meeting at OpenAI's San Francisco office in July.

The U.S. AI pioneer recently established an office in Seoul, committing to support Korea's "sovereign AI" policy. Additionally, OpenAI is collaborating with local tech giant Kakao Corp. for ecosystem integration and is exploring partnerships with Samsung and SK hynix in the semiconductor and hardware sectors.

AI will also be a focal topic during the APEC leaders' summit, with the South Korean president pledging to present Seoul's "APEC AI Initiative" at the event next month.

"We will strive to ensure that the vision of 'AI for all,' where advancements in cutting-edge technology contribute to universal human values, becomes the 'new normal' for the international community," Lee remarked in his address at the 80th U.N. General Assembly in New York.

Other potential attendees include tech leaders such as Apple's Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai from Google, and Jane Fraser of Citigroup.

From China, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew are also considering attending.

As many CEOs are expected to finalize their schedules by mid-October, business leaders, led by Chey, are mobilizing their global networks to ensure participation.

"The KCCI will collaborate closely with the government to transform the APEC CEO Summit into a platform for connection and cooperation among global enterprises," Chey stated, emphasizing that the event will showcase the innovative capabilities and sustainability of South Korean companies.

Chey asserted that the summit will act as a "massive showcase" for the robustness of the South Korean economy.

"Business leaders are anticipated to utilize the upcoming Chuseok holiday to brainstorm strategies for enhancing cooperation with international tech giants attending the APEC CEO Summit," an industry official noted.
