New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has officially revealed that Tarun Garg will take on the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO), starting January 1, 2026. This marks a historic moment as Garg will become the first Indian to helm Hyundai Motor India since its inception in 1996.

The announcement arrives as the current MD, Unsoo Kim, prepares to transition back to South Korea for a strategic position at Hyundai Motor Company, effective December 31, 2025.

Until that date, Garg will hold the title of MD & CEO Designate, as per the company’s regulatory filing with the BSE.

HMIL expressed its gratitude for the valuable contributions made by Unsoo Kim during his tenure with the company.

Garg, who earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Delhi Technological University and an MBA from IIM Lucknow, boasts over thirty years of experience in the automotive sector.

Prior to his tenure at Hyundai, he was associated with Maruti Suzuki India Limited, where he occupied several pivotal leadership roles, including that of Executive Director overseeing Marketing, Logistics, Parts, and Accessories.

Hyundai has commended Garg for his profound understanding of market trends and his knack for crafting forward-thinking strategies.

During his time at HMIL, Garg has played a crucial role in enhancing the company’s market presence, boosting profitability, and spearheading new initiatives in digital marketing, rural outreach, and the pre-owned car segment.

In the period between April and August this year, Hyundai Motor India recorded sales of 220,233 units in the domestic market, reflecting an 11.2 percent decline year-on-year (YoY), according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
