This figure includes exports amounting to Rs 16,414 crore until May 31, 2025, as reported by the government.

This investment initiative has also provided jobs for 28,067 individuals, as stated by Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, in a written response to Lok Sabha inquiries.

The PLI scheme aims to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities for telecom and networking products, backed by a budget of Rs 12,195 crore. A total of 42 companies have been officially recognized as beneficiaries, comprising 28 MSMEs and 14 non-MSMEs.

To facilitate the rollout of 5G services, various spectrum bands for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), including 700 MHz, 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz, have been allocated to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) through auctions held in 2022 and 2024.

Bidders who secure spectrum in these auctions gain the freedom to implement any IMT technology, including 5G.

The Minister also highlighted the Postal Department's new initiatives, which include digitizing Post Office Savings Bank services, transitioning Postal Life Insurance to a paperless format, establishing Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras, and partnering with e-commerce platforms to enhance banking, insurance, and e-commerce accessibility in rural and urban areas.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has launched several initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and domestic production within the communications industry.

Under the 'Digital Communications Innovation Square (DCIS)' initiative, the DoT has supported 126 projects led by startups and MSMEs, with a total funding of Rs 108 crore, aimed at developing cutting-edge technologies, including indigenous 5G.

The BharatNet project is currently being executed in phases to ensure broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats (GPs) across the nation, and to date, 2,14,325 GPs have been made service-ready.
