New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) The US-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla recorded sales of 225 units of its sole electric vehicle in India, the Model Y SUV, for the calendar year 2025, as per industry reports.
Data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) indicated that Tesla sold 64 units in September, 40 in October, 48 in November, and 73 in December.
The American EV maker has not yet completed a year of retail operations in India, having launched its first showroom in July.
Currently, the company offers the Model Y in India as a completely built unit featuring a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration.
The standard RWD variant of the Model Y is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Long Range RWD variant is available at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices are considerably higher than those in international markets due to India's steep import duties on fully assembled vehicles.
Tesla operates experience centers in Gurugram, Mumbai, and Delhi, featuring approximately 12 superchargers and 10 destination chargers across these cities.
The Model Y claims an impressive range of up to 500 km for the standard variant and as much as 622 km for the Long Range. The standard model can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range variant does it in 5.6 seconds; both variants have a top speed of 201 kph. Fast charging can replenish approximately 238 km of range for the standard model and 267 km for the Long Range in just 15 minutes, according to the company.
In 2025, India’s electric vehicle market constituted 8 percent of all new vehicle registrations, with total EV sales reaching 2.3 million units, according to data from the Vahan Portal.
The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) reported that electric two-wheelers spearheaded EV growth with 1.28 million units sold, representing 57 percent of total EV sales, while electric three-wheelers accounted for 0.8 million units, or 35 percent of EV sales.
Sales of electric four-wheelers stood at 175,000 units, with notable growth in small and light commercial electric goods carriers, the report stated.
