Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) The Department of Posts has reached a significant milestone by successfully placing its first online order via the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), as announced by the Ministry of Communications on Thursday.
The order was placed on January 13, with the Department serving as a Logistics Service Provider, and the consignment was successfully delivered on January 15.
This inaugural order was made by UdyamWell, an ONDC-enabled initiative dedicated to supporting Bharatpreneurs, including artisans, farmers, and rural business operators.
This milestone represents a crucial advancement in the Department of Posts’ mission to deliver digitally enabled and interoperable logistics services nationwide.
“The consignment was delivered successfully on January 15, 2026. The first order by UdyamWell signifies an important advancement in the Department’s commitment to providing digitally enabled and interoperable logistics solutions,” stated the ministry.
“UdyamWell, as an ONDC-enabled initiative, is dedicated to supporting Bharatpreneurs through comprehensive services for artisans, farmers, and other rural business operators,” it added.
With this integration, sellers using ONDC-enabled buyer applications can now select the Department of Posts for parcel pickup, booking, transportation, and delivery.
This service is powered by the Department’s extensive and well-established postal network, which reaches even the most remote areas of the nation.
Currently, the Department of Posts operates on ONDC through the “Click & Book” model.
In this system, sellers can generate pickup requests online, choose the Department of Posts as their logistics partner, and have parcels picked up directly from their locations.
Postage charges are collected at the point of pickup, while consignments are inducted into the system, tracked digitally, and delivered using technology-driven logistics processes.
Officials believe that the onboarding of the Department of Posts as a Logistics Service Provider on ONDC will fortify India’s digital commerce ecosystem.
“With its unmatched reach, trusted public service history, and expanding digital capabilities, the Department of Posts’ integration as a Logistics Service Provider on ONDC will significantly enhance the national digital e-commerce ecosystem and enable inclusive participation of MSMEs and small sellers across the country,” it concluded.
