UIDAI Achieves Major Milestone with Aadhaar Biometric Updates for 1.2 Crore Students
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) In a significant milestone, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has successfully reached over 1.03 lakh schools nationwide, facilitating students to effortlessly complete their mandatory biometric update (MBU) for Aadhaar within their school premises, as reported by the Ministry of Electronics & IT on Tuesday.
To date, approximately 1.2 crore students have finalized their biometric updates as part of this extensive initiative.
This effort is designed to guarantee that children's Aadhaar information remains precise and current, which is essential for accessing government benefits and services.
The UIDAI initiated the MBU drive for school children in September 2025, following a successful integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application.
This collaboration with UDISE+, overseen by the Union Department of School Education and Literacy, enables authorities to monitor the biometric update progress of students.
It has also facilitated the identification of children who still need to complete their biometric updates, allowing for the organization of special camps within schools, as stated by the ministry.
UIDAI’s regional and state offices have been collaborating closely with state education departments, district administrations, schools, and other partners to ensure a smooth execution of this initiative.
Currently, about 4,000 machines are being employed for the drive, with plans to increase this number to accelerate the process, according to official data.
Updating children's biometrics in Aadhaar is crucial as it aids in their authentication for various government programs, scholarships, and for registration in competitive and university entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
UIDAI has been encouraging parents and guardians to make sure their children complete this essential update.
This mission mode drive has been ongoing for the last six months, and to promote participation, UIDAI has made the biometric updates for children aged 7 to 15 free of charge for a year starting from October 1, 2025.
In addition to school camps, children can also visit Aadhaar enrollment centers and Aadhaar Seva Kendras across the nation to finalize their biometric updates.
