Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday, 16 June announced that the national launch of the 'Viksit Bharat – Rozgar aur Aajeevika Mission (Gramin)' (VB-G RAM G) will be held from Andhra Pradesh on 1 July. The announcement came during a high-level meeting with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi, where the two leaders reviewed rural development programmes, employment generation initiatives, livelihood schemes, and panchayat development projects across the state.

How the Launch Will Unfold

Rural Development Ministers from all states and Union Territories will participate in the launch programme through video conferencing from various field locations across the country, Chouhan said. The event is designed to be a nationwide simultaneous activation rather than a single ceremonial function.

The launch will also spotlight Andhra Pradesh's successful rural governance models, including its Gram Panchayat Development Plan, model panchayats, and zero-waste gram panchayats — frameworks the Centre intends to share with other states as replicable best practices.

What the Centre Said About Andhra Pradesh

Chouhan praised Andhra Pradesh as one of the most progressive states in the country, describing it as having earned a reputation for swift decision-making on development matters. He encouraged the state to continue innovating in rural development and said its successful models would be circulated nationally.

This is a notable endorsement for the state government led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance, which has been seeking to demonstrate governance credentials since returning to power.

Key Developments from the Kalyan–Chouhan Meeting

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan briefed the Union Minister on the progress of rural development schemes in the state. He said all projects under rural development programmes have been geo-tagged to ensure transparency and prevent corruption — a digital accountability measure now being adopted across several states.

Kalyan also informed that a face recognition-based beneficiary verification system is nearing completion, aimed at eliminating duplicate or fraudulent beneficiaries from welfare rolls. Construction of rural roads and houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) is reportedly progressing rapidly across the state, he added.

Additionally, drinking water facilities for livestock have been established in every panchayat in Andhra Pradesh, benefiting rural livestock rearers and strengthening livelihood opportunities at the grassroots level.

Andhra Pradesh's ₹7,700 Crore Allocation

Kalyan thanked the Centre and the Ministry of Rural Development for providing an interim allocation of more than ₹7,700 crore to Andhra Pradesh under the VB-G RAM G initiative. He said the funds would accelerate rural development projects and improve village infrastructure across the state.

This comes amid a broader push by the Centre to front-load rural spending ahead of the 1 July national launch, signalling political and administrative urgency around the scheme's rollout.
