Bengaluru, Jan 7 (NationPress) The 16th Bengaluru International Film Festival is slated for March 1-8, under the theme ‘Garden of Peace for All’, as revealed by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during a press conference on Monday.

In his address at Krishna, the official residence of the Chief Minister, he spoke after a gathering of the organizing committee for this international film festival.

The previous edition of the festival highlighted the theme of ‘Social Justice’. This year, the festival will feature participation from over 60 countries, showcasing 200 films across 13 screens.

Screenings are scheduled to occur at 11 screens in Orion Mall, one at Suchitra Film Society, and another at Dr Ambareesh Auditorium in Chamarajpet.

In total, more than 400 films, including those in Kannada and other languages, will be displayed, providing the citizens of Bengaluru and Karnataka a chance to savor global cultures. The Chief Minister described this as a remarkable opportunity for cinema lovers.

Since its inception in 2006, the festival has evolved to its 16th edition. Last year’s event operated on a budget of Rs 7 crore, whereas this year’s budget has been increased to Rs 9 crore, according to the CM.

The festival will kick off on March 1 and conclude with a closing ceremony on March 8. The committee is set to announce the brand ambassador for the festival.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the event, with the Governor attending the closing ceremony.

The festival's start on March 1 is planned to allow for pre-budget discussions, the Chief Minister noted.

Addressing worries regarding the shutdown of cinema theaters, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s backing for the film industry.

This year’s festival, themed ‘Garden of Peace for All’, is dedicated to promoting Kannada cinema. The government has initiated various programs to support Kannada films, including the establishment of a selection committee to assess films for financial aid.

Furthermore, the government has earmarked 110 acres of land in Mysuru for the development of a Film City. This initiative will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, as announced by the Chief Minister.

When questioned about watching films during the festival, the Chief Minister mentioned that he would make an effort to view films with artistic value, if time allows.

On queries regarding nominations for Legislative Council (MLC) members, the Chief Minister indicated that the party leadership would determine the candidates, who will encompass various fields, including cinema, literature, and social work.
