Panaji, April 8 (NationPress) From hidden beaches to lively cultural celebrations, Abhay Deol's Goa journey is far from typical. The Bollywood star has shared his favorite spots in the state, which encompass the enchanting Chikhal Kalo festival, tranquil Kakolem beach, and peaceful corners of museums, among various others.
In collaboration with Airbnb and the Goa Tourism Department’s Rediscover Goa initiative, Airbnb has introduced Goa Unseen, a guidebook that offers an insider’s view on the state’s lesser-known attractions.
Abhay, a longtime resident, shared at the launch of Goa Unseen that the state is acclaimed for its “parties, cafes, bars, beaches, and lifestyle.”
“However, there exists a segment of tourism that remains unnoticed, which includes individuals visiting Goa for wellness, yoga, and meditation. Many healers from around the globe come here, and that aspect is still underground and not widely recognized,” he remarked.
The actor further emphasized: “Goa is primarily recognized for its beaches and nightlife; however, it has tremendous potential to be a hub for wellness. The region boasts a rich history of Ayurvedic medicine and healing culture that deserves exploration, and that’s a conversation I’d love to have with you.”
When discussing Abhay’s top recommendations for Goa, he first highlighted the Chikhal Kalo Festival: “Hosted in Marcel, this festival invites participants to engage in muddy fields, reviving the playful essence of Lord Krishna’s youth. Accompanied by folk music and traditional customs, it offers a truly unique experience that highlights Goa’s dynamic cultural heritage beyond its beaches.”
Next on his list is the Sao Joao Feast, a monsoon celebration where locals leap into wells, dance to lively melodies, and celebrate Goa’s vibrant traditions.
He also pointed to Fado & Mando at Madragoa, Panaji, featuring Fadista Sonia Shirsat - a musical genre that reveals the musical styles of Portugal and Goa.
Abhay included the historic churches of Goa, along with the Museum of Christian Art in old Goa, which houses a rare collection of sacred relics, ornate altars, and intricate artifacts reflecting the artistic and religious heritage of the past.
Regarding culinary experiences, Abhay’s initial recommendation is State of Good Vibes in Moira, where the freshly baked treats at the sourdough bakery-café are among his favorites.
He also praised the exceptional farm-to-table dining experience at C’est L’avi — A Table in the Hills by Avinash Martins, set amid Goa’s lush landscapes.
For Abhay, Kakolem beach is a hidden gem, featuring stunning cliffs and an unspoiled shoreline, ideal for a private getaway.
