Abhijeet Bhattacharya Sparks Controversy with Remarks on Mahatma Gandhi

Mumbai, Dec 22 (NationPress) Playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who previously lent his voice to Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan in various film songs, has returned to his familiar role of igniting controversies.

Recently, he has drawn attention for his remarks regarding Mahatma Gandhi, a pivotal figure in the establishment of independent India.

In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra on his podcast, he asserted, “Music composer R. D. Burman surpassed Mahatma Gandhi. Just as Gandhi is regarded as the father of the nation, R. D. Burman was the father of the nation in the realm of music.”

Furthermore, he escalated his criticism by labeling Gandhi as the father of the nation for Pakistan. He stated, “Mahatma Gandhi was the father of the nation for Pakistan, not India. India had already existed, while Pakistan was later formed from India. Gandhi has been wrongly attributed as the father of the nation for India; he is partly responsible for the creation of Pakistan,” he added.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s career was launched by R. D. Burman in a Bengali film where he performed a duet with the legendary Asha Bhosle. He collaborated with Burman on stage shows early in his career and has lent his voice to Bollywood actors including Mithun Chakrabarty, Vijay Anand, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Akshaye Khanna, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Ajay Devgan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Chandrachur Singh, Bobby Deol, Jitendra Kumar, and Jimmy Shergill.

In 1992, he contributed to the soundtrack of ‘Khiladi’ with popular tracks like ‘Waada Raha Sanam’, ‘Khud Ko Kya Samajhti Hai’, and ‘Kya Khabar Thi Jaana’, composed by Jatin-Lalit, which led to numerous major hits throughout the 90s.
