Adarsh Gourav Discusses the Freedom of Nuanced Storytelling in OTT
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 30 (NationPress) Actor Adarsh Gourav asserts that narratives like his upcoming film “Tu Yaa Main” resonate more profoundly on digital platforms, as they provide characters and storylines the opportunity to develop with increased depth and nuance.
As the movie “Tu Yaa Main” is set to debut on Netflix on April 10, Adarsh shared with IANS: “I sincerely believe these platforms have created ample opportunities for nuanced storytelling. There’s undeniably greater freedom to delve into intricate characters and non-traditional narratives.”
“Projects like Tu Yaa Main can flourish more in the digital realm because they aren’t restricted by conventional expectations of scale or formula,” he added.
However, he acknowledges that each medium presents its own set of challenges.
“In the digital space, the sheer volume of content creates a tangible pressure to distinguish oneself. This can sometimes foster a different kind of creative motivation, where you remain acutely aware of audience interaction,” he explained.
“Nonetheless, I find this an exhilarating period for actors as it allows participation in stories that are more character-focused, intimate, and often more genuine. For me, that’s the storytelling approach I find most rewarding,” Adarsh noted.
Tu Yaa Main is a survival thriller directed by Bejoy Nambiar, and it is a remake of the 2018 Thai film The Pool. The plot centers around two influencers embarking on an adventurous journey that transforms into a struggle for survival against the dangers of the backwaters and a cunning predator.
Reflecting on his role in the film, Adarsh mentioned that his journey was introspective.
“What captivated me about this project was that the conflict is not overtly loud or external; it’s profoundly personal and layered. Much of what the character experiences is not always verbalized, requiring me to invest substantial time in comprehending his emotional terrain, what he feels versus what he opts to convey,” he elaborated.
The actor stated that he concentrated on crafting a robust backstory for his character, Maruti Kadam, who is also known by his rap alias, Aala Flowpara, a passionate aspiring rapper from Nalasopara aiming for recognition.
“Understanding his silences, pauses, and the internal contradictions within him was essential. For me, it was about trusting in stillness and permitting the audience to interpret the nuances rather than explicitly stating everything,” he remarked.
“I engaged in numerous discussions with director Bejoy Nambiar regarding the tone, as narratives like this can easily veer into overacting,” Adarsh added.
He emphasized that he relied heavily on instinct while remaining present and reacting authentically instead of performing for effect.
