Mumbai, June 2 (NationPress) Adhyayan Suman has candidly shared the challenges he faced in the film industry, disclosing that rejections and setbacks were a recurring theme in his journey, even as a star kid.
In a recent chat with IANS, the actor-singer confessed that his family background did not provide him with a buffer against the harsh truths of Bollywood. He addressed the long-discussed issue of nepotism, reflecting on how the belief that star children have a guaranteed path to success is misleading. Throughout his career, he has confronted multiple rejections, obstacles, and instances where he felt completely dismissed.
The actor stated, “Certainly, I hail from a film background, but the reality is that nothing has ever been handed to me effortlessly. My parents have been a source of emotional strength, but at every audition, meeting, and opportunity—I’ve had to earn it. Many assume being a star kid ensures success, but that's not the reality. I’ve experienced rejections, setbacks, and have been overlooked frequently. What truly counts is resilience, and I’ve never lost faith in myself.”
Suman also acknowledged the historically male-dominated nature of the film and music sectors, particularly regarding representation and equal chances. Nevertheless, he feels that progress is gradually occurring, thanks to filmmakers dedicated to presenting more equitable narratives. He especially commended Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his forward-thinking portrayal of female characters.
“It’s undeniable that gender imbalances have existed in the industry—particularly in pay and chances. Yet, change is on the horizon. Filmmakers like Bhansali are trailblazers. They not only cast women in principal roles—they imbue them with depth, dignity, and compelling story arcs. This is the type of storytelling we need more of, and I’m honored to be a part of such projects.”
Discussing his future endeavors, Adhyayan revealed, “This year, I have 4 films and 6 songs lined up.”
Adhyayan Suman is the son of esteemed actor Shekhar Suman and producer Alka Suman. He made his acting debut in 2008 with “Haal–e–dil” and subsequently starred in “Raaz – The Mystery Continues.”
