Adinath Kothare on 'System': How a chance meeting with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari changed everything
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor Adinath Kothare has revealed that his role in the new series 'System' was the result of a chance encounter with director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari — one he had quietly wished for long before it materialised. The actor described the experience as a real-life case of manifestation coming full circle.
The Chance Meeting That Sparked It All
'I had gone to a Bollywood award function where I met director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari. I casually told her that I wished to work with her someday. Surprisingly, the very next day I received a call for casting,' Kothare said. He then auditioned for 'System' and secured the part. 'Sometimes the things we manifest really do come true, and this was one such dream fulfilled for me,' he added.
Kothare's Role in 'System'
In the series, Adinath Kothare portrays a character named Alok, sharing screen space with veteran actor-director Ashutosh Gowariker and actress Sonakshi Sinha. Created by Harman Baweja and directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, 'System' also stars Jyothika. The show follows privileged prosecutor Neha Rajvansh and humble stenographer Sarika Rawat, whose lives collide in a system where power shapes truth.
A Career Built Across Marathi Cinema and Beyond
Kothare's screen journey began early — he first appeared as a child actor in his father's film Majha Chakula in 1994. As an adult, he debuted with Ved Lavi Jeeva before going on to appear in the sports drama Standby (2011) and Aditya Sarpotdar's college drama Satrangi Re (2012).
He gained wider recognition playing a ventriloquist in Zapatlela 2, an adventurous young man in Hello Nandan, an atheist student in Avatarachi Goshta, and real-life cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar in the Hindi film 83. The 2020s brought a new wave of visibility with the musical romantic drama Chandramukhi, the family drama Shaktimaan, and the comedy Panchak.
Behind the Camera and on the Web
Beyond acting, Kothare made his directorial debut with Paani, which earned the National Film Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation along with several other honours. On the digital front, his credits include City of Dreams — Season 2, Crime Beat, and the web series Detective Dhananjay, which brings to life the iconic fictional investigator created by celebrated novelist Baburao Arnalkar.
With 'System' now adding a high-profile Hindi OTT project to his portfolio, Kothare's cross-industry presence looks set to grow further.
