Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) Renowned Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who is currently the host of the reality game show ‘Wheel of Fortune India’, has unveiled the foundational concept for the Mumbai Clean League.

The league's inspiration stems from the Indian Premier League. It merges the excitement of a commercial sports and entertainment event with civic duties.

He stated, “Observing the IPL sparked an idea in my mind, which I discussed with Amit Satham ji. I suggested creating a Mumbai Clean League that encourages everyone to engage, as our city, Mumbai, is home to around 250 million residents, all of whom desire a better quality of life. Although the city is compact, its energy is immense, and it stands as a financial hub of our nation.”

“Everyone aspires to live in a clean and pollution-free environment. Hence, let’s take action. From our school days, we’ve always had competitions, be it sports day or monitoring roles, instilling a competitive spirit within us. So, I proposed to Gagrani ji that we initiate a league, inviting all of Mumbai to join in this competition,” he elaborated.

The Mumbai Clean League is a civic program aimed at enhancing urban cleanliness through organized competition among city wards. Launched by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, it evaluates areas based on waste management, sanitation, community involvement, and innovative recycling practices. This league format promotes accountability among officials and engages residents, housing societies, and local organizations.

To ensure transparency, regular audits, surprise inspections, and public dashboards are implemented. This initiative aligns with national campaigns like the Swachh Bharat Mission, driving behavioral change alongside infrastructure improvements to create a cleaner and more sustainable city.
