Mumbai, July 21 (NationPress) This year’s Asian Project Market has selected 30 outstanding projects, including Alia Bhatt’s “Difficult Daughters”, as announced by the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
The selection features Difficult Daughters, directed by Soni Razdan and produced by Alia Bhatt alongside her sister Shaheen Bhatt and renowned indie producer Alan McAlex (Santosh).
According to deadline.com, Kani Kusruti, known for her role in the Cannes Palme d’Or winning film All We Imagine As Light, is collaborating with the film's director Payal Kapadia to produce The Last Of Them Plagues, helmed by Kunjila Mascillamani.
Kusruti was a jury member for the New Currents competition at BIFF last year.
The line-up also showcases several filmmakers connected to BIFF, including Indian director Pradip Kurbah, who won the 2019 Jiseok Award and is now presenting Moon; and Bangladeshi filmmaker Biplob Sarkar, who returns with the LGBTQ+ themed The Magical Men.
Representing Malaysia is Lau Kok Rui, from the BIFF 2022 Asian Film Academy, presenting Wake Me up When the Mourning Ends, with Soi Cheang, Stefano Centini, and Wong Kew Soon as producers, as per deadline.com.
The selection also includes five Chinese-language projects, three from Taiwan that focus on female leads.
Japan contributes three projects from acclaimed directors Shiraishi Kazuya, Fujita Naoya, and Zhang Yaoyuan, exploring themes such as the realities of foreign laborers, a woman’s quest for identity, and the multifaceted challenges faced by Japanese youth today.
The Asian Project Market (APM) will take place over four days from September 20-23 during the 20th edition of the Asian Contents & Film Market at BEXCO.
In recent news, Alia Bhatt was seen in Vasan Bala’s “Jigra”, where she portrayed a troubled young woman on a quest to save her brother from a foreign prison after he was wrongfully imprisoned.
Next, she will feature in “Alpha” alongside Sharvari, where the duo will portray super agents.
This film, directed by Shiv Rawail, is set for release during the Christmas Holiday weekend of 2025.
