Tamil romantic action film Anbil Avan, starring Ashok Selvan and Preity Mukhundan in the lead roles, has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing it for theatrical release. Directed by R Kaarthikeyan, the film is now confirmed to release worldwide on 2 October 2026.

Production house Happy High Pictures confirmed the certification via its social media handles, posting: #AnbilAvan is certified UA and is getting ready to meet you in theatres this Oct 2nd. The announcement comes just days after the team locked the revised release date.

The film was originally scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on 25 September 2026, but the makers pushed it by one week, citing strong audience response to the trailer and a desire to arrange a bigger, wider distribution footprint.

Why the Release Was Postponed

Sharing the postponement update on his X timeline, actor Ashok Selvan had posted a statement from the producers explaining the decision. In the statement, the makers said: 'The incredible response from all of you, along with the growing interest and confidence shown by our distribution partners, has encouraged us to plan for a bigger and wider release.'

The team noted that Anbil Avan had been a labour of love for nearly two years, and that waiting one additional week was a worthwhile step if it helped present the film with the 'scale, reach, and care it deserved.'

What the Trailer Reveals

The trailer, which has generated considerable audience buzz, opens with Ashok Selvan's character recounting his story to veteran actor Revathy. He describes how his wife Iyal — played by Preity Mukhundan — gave up a privileged life for him when he had nothing. The couple are shown working together at a star hotel, enduring constant supervision and pressure.

The narrative takes a darker turn when a disturbing incident occurs while Iyal is alone at home. A political figure in the trailer is heard saying, 'That night something happened. I too am remorseful that it happened.' The incident sets off a chain of volatile confrontations, explosive action sequences, and strain within the couple's relationship — forming the emotional and dramatic core of the film.
