Los Angeles, March 4 (NationPress) Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie participated in a mother-daughter brunch in Alabama alongside her daughter Zahara to highlight the issue of period poverty.
The National Institutes of Health defines period poverty as the lack of access to menstrual products, education, and sanitation facilities for women and girls.
Zahara, who became a member of Spelman College’s Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority in November 2023, served as the keynote speaker at the fourth annual Mother-Daughter Brunch hosted by Women in Training Inc. at the Renaissance hotel, as reported by people.com.
“We are incredibly grateful that Zahara Jolie-Pitt will address the Fourth Annual WIT Mother-Daughter Brunch, sharing her commitment to combatting period poverty, which aligns with Women in Training’s mission,” stated the organization’s president and CEO Adeyela Bennett prior to the event, according to WAKA 8 Action News.
She added, “We are thrilled that her mother, the globally acclaimed actress Angelina Jolie, will also be present to support her daughter and our objective of providing every girl and young woman with the necessary products to thrive.”
Angelina adopted Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005 when she was only 7 months old during a visit with her eldest son, Maddox.
The Academy Award-winning actress is the mother of six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne, with her former husband Brad Pitt.
Approximately a month before the brunch, Angelina and her children volunteered to assist families affected by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.
“Her kids are actively volunteering across the state, determining what is needed, and offering their help,” a source close to the Eternals actress informed people.com on January 13.
“She visited the firefighters at the Rose Bowl and maintains a close relationship with the team at World Central Kitchen,” the insider remarked, noting that Angelina first engaged with the organization during her visit to Ukraine in May 2022.
“Overall, she aims to listen and support without imposing,” the source continued regarding Jolie’s charitable endeavors.
“She understands the significance of delivering supplies and contributing without seeking recognition. She is focused on listening and learning.”
In addition to nurturing her children to be socially responsible, the actress has been candid about the significance of self-care.
