Mumbai, July 24 (NationPress) Do you recall the unforgettable line "O Pochi, O Koka, O Bobi, O Lola" from the 1995 hit Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge? Renowned actor Anupam Kher disclosed that this line was spontaneously created by Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, whom he described as “exceptional at improvisation.”
Reflecting on his role as a cool father in films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Anupam shared with IANS: “The portrayal of a cool dad is my homage to my father. He embodied that role perfectly. All those character names you mentioned—they all represent my father.”
Anupam fondly remarked that his father was his “closest companion.”
When asked how the famous line “O Pochi, O Koka, O Bobi, O Lola” came about, Anupam responded quickly: “It was spontaneous!”
He recounted: “I told Shah Rukh, ‘Let’s create something memorable.’ That’s how we birthed it. Shah Rukh is incredibly adept at improvisation. He is always eager to experiment and explore fresh ideas.”
Anupam acknowledged that the line has achieved cult status. “It has become a cultural phenomenon—O Pochi… It holds a special place. Certain things resonate and become significant. We often did similar things with our father.”
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a romantic musical film written and directed by Aditya Chopra in his directorial debut. The movie features Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as Raj and Simran, two young non-resident Indians who fall in love while vacationing in Europe with friends.
Raj endeavors to win Simran's family over so that they can marry, but Simran's father has already promised her hand to his friend's son.
On Anupam's recent work, his latest film is “Tanvi The Great,” which tells the story of a 21-year-old woman on the autism spectrum living with her mother and grandfather. Inspired by her late father, Captain Samar Raina, an Indian Army officer, she aspires to salute the flag at Siachen Glacier.
The film also stars Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Boman Irani, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, Nasser, alongside Anupam Kher and Iain Glen.
