Actress Archana Puran Singh has recalled a memorable behind-the-scenes moment from the Doordarshan serial 'Jaane Bhi Do Paro', revealing how she and actor Rakesh Bedi abandoned a written script mid-shoot and improvised a two-and-a-half-minute opening scene entirely on instinct — with only the first line prepared. The anecdote surfaced during a conversation ahead of the airing of Family Full House with Rohit Sharma on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.

Archana explained that on 'Jaane Bhi Do Paro', she wore two hats — serving as both director and actor, while Bedi played her husband on screen. After performing the written opening scene once, then twice, neither felt it was working. 'Forget the script. You just say the first line, and after that, I'll respond to whatever you say, and you respond to that,' she recalled telling Bedi. The result, she said, was a two-and-a-half-minute scene built entirely without pre-written lines — and one she considers among their finest work together.

Archana was unambiguous about where the credit belonged. 'He is a theatre artist and still does theatre even today, and that is why he is so wonderful,' she said. He credited the partnership's longevity — spanning four to five years on 'Shreeman Shreemati' and one to two years on 'Jaane Bhi Do Paro' — to that shared philosophy. 'I have never experienced a better co-artist in my life,' he said of Archana.

A Partnership Built on Mutual Craft

Archana added that the two would routinely construct lines for each other during shoots — what she called 'giving each other punches.' 'If I came up with a good punch for him, or he thought of something for me, we would give those punches to each other, knowing that if both of us performed well, the scene would really come alive,' she said. The dynamic, she noted, was built on trust rather than competition — a rarity, both suggested, in the entertainment industry.
