Actor Arjun Das, who predominantly works in Tamil cinema, has opened up about playing Matthew in the upcoming Netflix series #Love, describing the character as a hopeless romantic who is deeply stubborn about chemistry. The series is set to premiere on 2 October on Netflix.

What the Series Is About

#Love follows Tara and Matthew, two single, rival dating-app founders who have built entire businesses helping others find love — while their own romantic lives remain unresolved and, by their own admission, mildly ironic. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays Tara, and Arjun Das plays Matthew opposite her.

'What drew me to Matthew was how stubborn he is about chemistry. He's a hopeless romantic hiding behind a chill guy exterior, and he's convinced compatibility is just a fancy word people use when they're scared to take a real chance. It was such a fun character to sink into, especially opposite Aishwarya, who brought so much wit and warmth to Tara,' Arjun Das said.

He also reflected on the collaborative experience on set: 'Working with her made a strong case for compatibility, too! This story is unlike anything I've done before, and having Balaji's instincts as a director alongside Soundarya's vision for the show, and Netflix backing it, really shaped that. They knew exactly when to let a scene breathe and when to bring in the lighter moments.'

Aishwarya Lekshmi said her character resonated deeply with her personally. 'Tara felt closest to the women I know and admire in real life. Playing her was such a joy — she is emotionally layered, ambitious and hardworking; she struggles, she falls, and yet she keeps building, all while trying to make sense of her own love life,' she said.

She added that Tara's core contradiction — building a career on the belief that love can be figured out, only to meet a variable she cannot control — hit close to home. 'Working beside Arjun came so easily, and the chemistry flowed naturally between us from day one,' Lekshmi said.

The series is produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth under her banner May6 Entertainment Factory and directed by Balaji Mohan. The screenplay is written by Nirmal Williams, with Sharada Subramanian and Shweta Chakravarty as co-writers. The show explores friendship, family, ambition, and the complexities of self-discovery in a digitally mediated world — themes that both leads say are distinctly contemporary.

With Netflix backing the project and a release locked for 2 October, #Love is positioned as a cross-audience romantic series that brings Tamil cinema sensibility to a global streaming platform.
