Mumbai, Jan 24 (NationPress) Actor and politician Arun Govil has voiced his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acknowledging the challenges faced by the film sector.
During a press conference facilitated by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the Cine Artiste Welfare Trust (CAWT) in Mumbai, Arun Govil remarked, "I want to extend my thanks to our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya."
He continued, "After I raised the film industry's concerns in Parliament, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took notice of the situation. The Labour Minister also gave it proper attention, and I have diligently followed up on this since then."
Arun Govil, who became a Member of Parliament in 2024, received a special recognition at the gathering held by FWICE and CAWT. Representatives from various film bodies met with him to discuss making the Indian film industry more inclusive and supportive of its workers.
They expressed gratitude for his proactive role in advocating for the interests of the Indian film and television sector since his election in June 2024. Notable figures in attendance included Poonam Dhillon, Mukesh Rishi, Upasana Singh, and B. N. Tiwari, as MP Arun Govil shared his insights on parliamentary actions.
B.N. Tiwari, President of FWICE, commented, "I hope issues related to working hours, health and safety, and timely payments will be addressed."
CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon noted, "We convened today to relay our challenges to Arun ji. He has already raised our issues. Tiwari ji united all associations and brought attention to the ongoing problems in our industry."
Poonam called for the government to implement strict regulations to enhance the working conditions for all industry workers, especially those in short-term roles.
"No actor is irreplaceable, except for top stars who receive timely payments and proper working hours. The real concern lies with countless other workers in our industry. If they voice their issues, producers often replace them without hesitation, especially for one-day or two-day roles,” she added.
“These actors face profound difficulties. That’s why we urge the government to establish strict regulations, complete with penalties for non-compliance, to safeguard the rights of all workers in the industry.”
Upasana Singh expressed, "I am incredibly thankful to the federation and CAWT for organizing this event and inviting Arun Govil ji. It allowed actors and technicians to unite and express their concerns collectively."
Filmmaker and IFTDA President Ashoke Pandit highlighted the significant moments from the meeting.
"While we honored him, multiple industry members shared their concerns and posed questions to Arun Govil ji. He addressed each query, explaining potential solutions and how to improve the industry's overall welfare," concluded Ashoke Pandit.
