Emily Blunt has revealed that the cast of her upcoming sci-fi epic 'Disclosure Day' fell into stunned silence when former US President Barack Obama walked onto the set, with the British actress confessing she had unknowingly draped her acid-wash denim jacket on his chair. The 43-year-old recounted the encounter in a recent interview with Extra, describing how director Steven Spielberg noted the unusual hush that fell over the otherwise boisterous ensemble.

The denim jacket mix-up

Recalling the visit, Blunt said, ‘Steven said we were all cringe-ily, like, silent when he walked in because we were such a gregarious, noisy bunch. And then everyone was like (silent) when (President Obama) came in. I had this acid wash '80s denim jacket that I had put on his chair. I didn't realise it was his chair.'

She added that the former President played along with the awkward moment. ‘And he came and sat down and he went, ‘Oh, what is this?' I went, ‘This is for you. I heard you loved acid washed denim,'' Blunt said, as quoted by Female First UK.

Cast weighs in on extraterrestrial life

The visit comes as Blunt and co-star Josh O'Connor, 36, promote the Spielberg-directed sci-fi project, which has drawn attention for its themes around alien life. ‘I think you can feel that it has reached a sort of critical mass of, like, wanting to know. I think there is a sense that if we aren't alone, wouldn't it actually be a really positive, exciting thing to know that? I think it might be arrogant to imagine that we're the only civilization in the universe,' Blunt said.

O'Connor was more emphatic. ‘To me, it's very obvious that we're not alone… The question of whether they visited us is sort of up in the air for me,' he said.

Obama's own alien remarks

The on-set anecdote dovetails with Obama's recent comments on the subject. Speaking on the No Lie With Brian Tyler Cohen podcast earlier this year, the 64-year-old said, ‘They're real. But I haven't seen them. They're not being kept at Area 51. There's no underground facility, unless there's this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the President of the United States.'

Asked what his first question was after winning the presidency, Obama replied, ‘Where are the aliens?' He later clarified on Instagram that while the ‘universe is so vast that the odds are good there's life out there,' he ‘saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us.'
