Los Angeles, Oct 15 (NationPress) Actor Stephen Graham has gained a notable fan for his latest portrayal, and it happens to be Bruce Springsteen, the legend whose father he depicts on screen.
Just weeks after clinching his first Emmy for ‘Adolescence’, the British actor has drawn significant acclaim from ‘The Boss’, as reported by Variety.
Springsteen praised Graham’s role in ‘Springsteen: Delivery Me From Nowhere’. In this Searchlight biopic directed by Scott Cooper, Graham portrays Bruce’s father, Douglas Springsteen, sharing the screen with Jeremy Allen White, who plays the iconic rocker during the creation of his 1982 album ‘Nebraska’.
During a special Q&A at Spotify’s London office with White, Springsteen remarked that Graham “truly captured the physical and emotional depth of my father”, admitting their relationship was quite complex.
The Boss expressed, “He faced many challenges, such as alcoholism and bipolar disorder. Stephen seamlessly embodied both his essence and appearance, especially as he aged. By the film's conclusion, you sense my father's resilience and warmth.”
According to Variety, White shared that he learned to play the guitar on a rare 1955 Gibson J200, a gift from Springsteen as he prepared for the role.
He mentioned, “That guitar became the one featured in the film. I even brought a jump rope to the set, mistakenly thinking I’d need it to maintain my stamina and keep sweating between performance scenes.
“I thought I could outlast Bruce’s energy. I soon realized that wasn’t necessary; the adrenaline and sweat come naturally. Bruce-level energy is instinctive when you’re performing,” he added.
