Mumbai, Oct 12 (NationPress) Actor-producer Sohum Shah is marking the 7th anniversary of the groundbreaking film ‘Tumbbad’. On Sunday, the actor shared a collection of behind-the-scenes images and videos from the film's production on his Instagram account.

The visuals primarily feature scenes where he ventures into the chamber to collect gold coins. He also expressed his thoughts in a heartfelt caption, stating, “This journey took over a decade, filled with numerous challenges and hardships. Blood, sweat, tears, and instances where we reached our lowest points, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Yet, through it all, Tumbbad came to life.”

He went on to say, “As we commemorate the 7th anniversary of Tumbbad and embark on an exciting new chapter with Tumbbad 2, our hearts brim with love, appreciation, and renewed determination. Tumbbad is what it is because of you, our family, our supporters. Here’s to the past that shaped us and the future we are about to forge together. Thank you for everything.”

The film has been instrumental in inspiring folklore-based narratives and has significantly transformed cinematic storytelling in India.

Reflecting on the film, Sohum stated in a communication from his team, “It’s hard to believe it’s been 7 years since Tumbbad was released. The box office success, cultural significance, and affection we have garnered have exceeded our wildest dreams. This film stands as a testament to the belief, dedication, craftsmanship, and relentless effort of all the creative minds who collaborated to bring this story to life.”

He continued, “We weren’t pursuing cult status or a legacy; we were simply crafting a film that we believed no one else would make, a film we would personally enjoy watching in theaters, hoping there were others like us who would appreciate such storytelling.”

“With Tumbbad 2, we maintain that same ethos. While the expectations are high, we perceive them not as pressure but as a source of purpose and motivation. After spending six years creating the first film and another six writing the sequel, our commitment remains unchanged: to narrate a story with sincerity. If that authenticity resonates with audiences once more, that would be our greatest achievement,” he added.

Last year, Tumbbad made a triumphant return to theaters, exceeding all expectations. Initially a slow-burn success in 2018, the film became a full-fledged phenomenon during its 2024 re-release.

To build on the excitement, Sohum Shah and his production company, Sohum Shah Films, have partnered with Pen Studios, helmed by industry veteran Jayantilal Gada, to bring Tumbbad 2 to life. The filmmakers will soon reveal the release date of the anticipated sequel.
