Mumbai, May 15 (NationPress) Singer Chris Brown was arrested on Thursday in Manchester, England, for allegedly assaulting music producer Abe Diaw with a tequila bottle at a nightclub in London in 2023.
This arrest comes just weeks before the artist's Breezy Bowl XX Tour.
A spokesperson from the Met explained, “A 36-year-old man was apprehended at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody. This arrest is related to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square that occurred on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
Brown reportedly traveled to Manchester via a private jet on Wednesday, prompting Met detectives to travel there as well for his arrest.
In October 2023, Diaw initiated a lawsuit against Brown, alleging that the singer “caused severe and lasting injuries” after striking him with a Don Julio 1942 bottle during the incident at Tape London nightclub.
Diaw required hospitalization and was discharged on crutches following the attack, which took place while Brown was on the Irish leg of his worldwide tour that began at Dublin's 3Arena on February 11, 2023, just eight days prior to the alleged assault.
This incident is not Brown's first brush with the law. He pleaded guilty in 2009 to violently assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, who subsequently secured a five-year restraining order against him in 2017.
Reports suggest that Brown's aggression towards Rihanna stemmed from her refusal to return money and gifts he had provided during their relationship.
