Kottayam (Kerala), Nov 24 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old youth was brutally stabbed to death in the Manikunnu region of Kottayam due to a conflict related to an alleged financial transaction involving drugs. The victim has been identified as Adarsh, who hailed from Thottakkad, Puthuppally.
The police have apprehended former Congress councilor of Kottayam Municipality, V.K. Anilkumar, along with his son Abhijith, in relation to this heinous act.
As per police reports, the incident unfolded around 4 a.m. outside Anilkumar’s residence. The confrontation reportedly arose from a financial disagreement involving Adarsh and Abhijith, concerning the supply of MDMA, a synthetic narcotic.
Abhijith allegedly procured the drug from Adarsh and even offered a vehicle as collateral for the deal, but he failed to pay the agreed sum. Later that night, Adarsh, together with his friends, visited Anilkumar’s residence to demand payment, leading to a disturbance.
The situation swiftly escalated into a violent encounter, during which Abhijith allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Adarsh multiple times.
Despite being rushed to Kottayam Medical College Hospital in critical condition, the youth succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, both Anilkumar and his son attempted to flee but were quickly captured by the Kottayam West Police.
Authorities utilized CCTV footage that captured their rapid departure from the scene to aid in their apprehension. Investigators revealed that Abhijith already has multiple narcotics-related cases against him, while Adarsh had previous charges related to drug possession.
Police are now delving deeper into the alleged MDMA supply chain and the financial interactions between the two parties. The body has been preserved at Kottayam Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Thorough interrogation of the suspects is ongoing, with law enforcement examining the roles of both father and son in the murder. Authorities indicated that additional charges, including those related to the NDPS Act, may be forthcoming as the investigation unfolds.
