Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 25 (NationPress) A 23-year-old individual, Affan, who brutally murdered four family members and his 19-year-old girlfriend, was reportedly under the influence of drugs during the heinous act, as revealed by an initial police investigation.

Currently, Affan is hospitalized at the state-run Medical College Hospital in the area.

After surrendering, he disclosed to the authorities that he had ingested poison following the tragic killings.

Presently, he remains in police custody at the hospital, where he is not cooperating with law enforcement or medical staff.

While he confessed that financial troubles stemming from his father Rahim's failed business ventures in the Middle East served as a motive, police remain skeptical of his claims.

The shocking spree of violence began around 10 a.m. on Monday and continued until approximately 5:30 p.m., resulting in the deaths of his girlfriend, younger brother, grandmother, his father’s sister, and her husband Lateef.

Meanwhile, his mother is fighting for her life at the hospital.

The tragedy has left the small town of Venjaramoodu, located about 25 kilometers from the state capital, in disbelief.

Residents are struggling to comprehend the events, which unfolded across three homes under the jurisdiction of two separate police stations.

A close friend of Affan expressed disbelief, noting that after the murders, they met on the road, where Affan appeared calm and mentioned he would return shortly due to some urgent matters.

Affan stunned local authorities when he entered the police station and informed the Station House Officer of the six murders.

At that moment, Affan mistakenly believed that his mother was also deceased.

According to police reports, Affan’s father operated a spare parts business overseas but had incurred significant losses, borrowing extensively without returning home for the past five years.

As the family fell into dire financial straits, those owed money began to pressure Affan.
