Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 7 (NationPress) Affan, the only suspect in the horrific slayings of four family members and his 22-year-old girlfriend in Kerala, collapsed while in police custody on Friday morning and was promptly transported to a nearby government hospital.
A local court had authorized police custody for Affan for a duration of three days. However, on Friday morning, he allegedly fainted in the restroom of the police station where he was detained. Although he was taken to a hospital, doctors found no health complications during the examination, and he was returned to custody.
The police had intended to take him for evidence collection on Friday when this incident transpired.
Affan is facing allegations of five murders and the attempted murder of his mother. Currently, the investigation and remand proceedings are particularly focused on the murder of his grandmother.
As per police reports, Affan brutally killed his 13-year-old brother, his grandmother, his father’s sister, her husband Lateef, and his girlfriend, whom he lured to his home prior to committing the crime.
Meanwhile, his father, Rahim, who had been working abroad in Saudi Arabia for seven years, returned home last week. The police have documented his statement.
Investigators discovered that Rahim's business in Saudi Arabia had failed, compelling him to take substantial loans from relatives. The murders are believed to have arisen from the escalating stress of repaying these debts. Police sources indicate that Affan was infuriated by the constant demands for repayment and chose to eliminate those pressuring his family.
Concerning the murder of his girlfriend, Affan allegedly informed police that he could not bear to leave her behind, which motivated him to kill her as well.
Affan’s mother, who survived the assault, is currently recuperating. However, she has not altered her initial statement to the police, asserting that her head injury resulted from a fall—an explanation that police remain doubtful about.
