Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 27 (NationPress) On Thursday, the Kerala Police recorded the testimony of 23-year-old Affan, the lone suspect in the deaths of four of his relatives along with his 22-year-old girlfriend.
The police have filed six cases against Affan across two police station jurisdictions where the horrific events unfolded on the outskirts of the capital.
On Thursday, officers visited Affan in the hospital to document his statement regarding the murder of his grandmother.
The medical board treating Affan indicated that he required a few more days of hospitalization. Consequently, the police arranged for a local magistrate to be present at the hospital to take his statement.
Meanwhile, doctors attending to Affan's mother, who is recovering from an attempted murder, informed the police that her statement would be recorded after a day.
Following an initial investigation, the police disclosed that the underlying motive for the crime stemmed from the escalating debts faced by Affan’s family after his father’s business in Saudi Arabia suffered significant losses. The family had accrued debts from various lenders, leading the police to identify these individuals as potential witnesses in the case.
In a shocking turn of events on Monday, Affan, residing in the outskirts of the capital city, committed the horrific act of killing five individuals. After the brutal event, he surrendered to the police via an auto-rickshaw and informed them that he had ingested poison.
The police promptly transported him to the Medical College hospital.
Among the deceased were Affan’s 13-year-old brother, his 22-year-old girlfriend, his grandmother, his father’s sister, and her husband Lateef.
Affan also viciously assaulted his mother, who is currently in critical condition at the Medical College hospital.
The police confirmed that Affan’s father operated a spare parts shop abroad, which faced financial difficulties, prompting him to borrow money from multiple sources.
As the business continued to falter, creditors began to pressure Affan and his family.
