Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 24 (NationPress) In a deeply disturbing event, a 23-year-old man named Afsan, from the suburbs of the capital city, took the lives of five individuals on Monday evening.
After committing these horrific acts, the suspect hailed an auto rickshaw and surrendered to the police, informing them that he had ingested poison.
Authorities swiftly transported him to the Medical College hospital.
The victims included Afsan’s 13-year-old brother; his 19-year-old girlfriend, who was also brought to his residence and murdered; his grandmother; his father’s sister; and her husband, Lateef.
Afsan also viciously assaulted his mother, who has been admitted to the Medical College hospital in critical condition.
As per police reports, Afsan’s father ran a spare parts business overseas that suffered losses, leading him to borrow money from multiple sources.
Facing severe financial difficulties and pressure from creditors, Afsan found himself in a desperate situation.
The local CPI-M legislator D.K. Murali, representing the area where this tragic incident unfolded, expressed his disbelief.
“What has occurred is unimaginable, and the entire town of Venjaramoodu is in shock. The five murders occurred across three residences within two police jurisdictions. I cannot comprehend the situation,” Murali stated.
Although Afsan has claimed that he committed these heinous acts out of desperation, police are investigating whether there were any additional motives.
“We only recognized something was amiss when the police arrived at Afsan’s residence, breaking the lock on the gate. Upon forcing entry, they discovered three lifeless bodies. His mother was found unconscious but was promptly taken to the Medical College hospital,” recounted a local who accompanied the police.
