Los Angeles, Nov 3 (NationPress) Hollywood icon George Clooney is contemplating the factors that contributed to the Democrats’ loss in the recent US Presidential elections.
The actor and filmmaker expressed that he stands by his decision to pen an op-ed advocating for former president Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, according to reports from ‘Variety’.
Looking back, he believes it was a “mistake” to have Kamala Harris take Biden’s place as the Democratic nominee. When queried on whether he would reiterate his NYT op-ed if given the opportunity, Clooney responded, “Yes. We had a chance. I wanted there to be, as I stated in the op-ed, a primary. Let’s battle-test this quickly and get it moving. I think the error with it being Kamala is that she had to contend with her own record. It’s very challenging to run while saying, ‘I’m not that person’.”
He continued, “It’s tough, and she faced a daunting challenge. Honestly, I think it was a mistake. But we are where we are. They say we were going to lose more House seats. So I don’t know. To not speak out would be to say, ‘I’m not going to tell the truth’.”
As reported by ‘Variety’, following Biden’s poor performance in his first presidential debate against Donald Trump, numerous figures in Hollywood urged him to step aside for a more competent candidate.
George Clooney emerged as the prominent voice of this movement after his July 2024 essay, in which he remarked about Biden, “We will not win in November with this president. Moreover, we won’t secure the House, and we will likely lose the Senate.”
“This is not just my view; it’s the consensus of every senator, congress member, and governor I’ve privately spoken with. Every one, regardless of their public statements,” he concluded.
