Mumbai, July 23 (NationPress) Actress Delnaaz Irani has shared her insights on the shifting standards of beauty within the entertainment sector.

While she recognizes the increasing dialogue surrounding inclusivity, she emphasizes that the expectation to appear flawless remains strong. Delnaaz remarked, “You’re evaluated based on your appearance even before your talent is considered.” She continued, “Even today, we are required to look impeccable at all times. I have always believed that beauty should be complemented by personality and presence. You can be the most attractive person in the room, but if you fail to emotionally connect with your audience, nothing else holds value.”

Delnaaz also addressed the challenges of staying relevant in a rapidly evolving industry. “People forget you the instant you step out of the spotlight. This industry progresses quickly, and there’s perpetually someone new on the horizon,” she expressed. “Remaining relevant entails continual growth—not only in your skills but also in how you present yourself both on and off-screen. There’s an ongoing pressure to appear younger, be fitter, and stay ‘in vogue,’ which can be draining. However, I firmly believe that consistency and quality work ultimately prevail.”

When queried about the historical challenges actresses have faced regarding beauty standards, she acknowledged that it has often been an unfair benchmark to meet.

The ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ star stated, “Yes, regrettably. If you didn’t conform to the traditional definition of beauty—fair skin, size zero, flawless features—you were often overlooked or pigeonholed. I have experienced this personally.”

Delnaaz further noted, “Social media has transformed everything into a visual showcase. Your feed needs to be immaculate—your attire, vacations, physique—all must appear perfect. Amidst this chaos, talent often gets overshadowed. Nonetheless, I still believe that genuine talent eventually rises to the surface. Longevity in this industry is earned, not just filtered.”

“People perceived me as the ‘cheerful, sweet best friend,’ and while I embraced those roles wholeheartedly, I yearned for more complexity. That’s why I ventured into theatre, reality shows, and various formats. I refuse to let others’ assumptions dictate my path—I shape it myself.”

The ‘Akbar Birbal’ actress concluded by saying, “Indeed, I always pay attention to the audience’s feedback,” she smiled. “Their affection, their responses, even their critiques—all of it counts. Because ultimately, we perform for them. If they are moved, entertained, or inspired by my work, that’s the greatest validation.”

On the professional front, Delnaaz Irani was recently seen in the Colors TV show “Mannat” and also starred in the film “The Archies.”
