Despite typically keeping his vulnerable side hidden, this actor can be deeply moved by impressive filmmaking, as reported by People magazine.

In the recent two-part Apple TV+ documentary ‘Number One on the Call Sheet’, Washington, now 70, reflects on a poignant moment when he found himself in tears in a dimly lit movie theater.

The versatile actor, known for embodying both real and fictional icons like Stephen Biko, Malcolm X, Rubin Carter, Macbeth, and Othello, shared, “I cried a little bit when I saw ‘Black Panther’.”

This groundbreaking 2018 film featured Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, directed by Ryan Coogler.

“I was on Broadway (in The Iceman Cometh), and I attended the premiere, not being particularly interested in the red carpet festivities,” he revealed.

“So I went backstage, met Chad and Ryan, and then took my seat to watch the film. It struck me that the baton had been passed. I was like, ‘Wow, these young boys are gone.’ I felt proud to witness their achievements and to see their direction moving forward,” he added.

According to People, Washington, a nine-time Oscar nominee with two wins, has starred in numerous critically acclaimed films like ‘Malcolm X’ and ‘The Hurricane’. He expressed confidence that the future of cinema was secure.

“At that time, I had no idea they would gross a billion dollars, but they did. That was a really special moment for me,” he concluded.
