Chennai, Sep 26 (NationPress) One of India's most acclaimed actors, Dhanush, has now confirmed his previous statement regarding how he and his siblings used to gather flowers from fields during their childhood to earn money for idlis.

It is worth mentioning that at the audio launch of his latest film, held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, Dhanush shared how, as a child, he and his siblings would spend over two and a half hours collecting flowers to earn a few rupees, which they would then use to buy idlis.

Although his revelation resonated with many fans, some social media trolls questioned the authenticity of his story, suggesting it was unbelievable that the son of a renowned director (Dhanush's father, Kasturi Raja, is a well-known Tamil film director) had to toil in the fields to save money for food.

During a pre-release event for his upcoming film, Idli Kadai, Dhanush responded to these doubts by saying, "I was born in 1983, and my father became a director in 1991. During those first eight years, we faced financial struggles. Even after he became a director, he was responsible for four children and had to manage our education and well-being. It was only around 1994-1995 that we began to live more comfortably. As kids, we understood our family's financial situation and didn’t want to be a burden. So, even when we did ask for money, it wasn’t always given. Instead, we worked in the fields, earned money, and bought idlis with our own hard work."

At the audio launch, Dhanush also shared how the inspiration for making a film centered on the 'Idli Kadai' concept came to him while he was abroad.

"While attending a meeting with Shreyas and Ashwath, I returned to my room alone. Like many people, I find comfort in Ilaiyaraaja's music when I'm alone. Listening to a song like 'Naan erikaarai...' transported me back to my childhood, reminding me of summers spent in my mother's native village, where there was a single idli shop I longed to eat at but couldn’t afford," he shared.

Dhanush elaborated on how he and his siblings earned money.

"In our village, we would collect flowers from the fields and receive payment based on the quantity. My two sisters, cousins, and I would wake up at 4 AM to pick flowers continuously for about two and a half hours, earning around Rs 2 to 2.5 each. Afterward, we would bathe at a nearby water tank, then head to the idli shop to enjoy four or five idlis. Despite dining in many fancy restaurants today, I’ve never experienced the same joy and satisfaction from those idlis bought with our hard-earned money," he concluded.

For those unaware, Dawn Pictures, one of the production companies behind the film, initially announced that the film would be released worldwide on April 10 this year, but later decided to delay it until October 1.
