Srinagar, Sep 26 (NationPress) The Congress party on Friday asserted that the opposing BJP, along with certain media personalities and social influencers, were utilizing video footage to misrepresent its councillor, Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag, with ill intentions.
Congress's media and publicity chairman, Pawan Khera, stated on X, “Numerous BJP leaders and some media influencers have been displaying a picture and footage of an individual, inaccurately portraying him as the elected Congress councillor - Phuntsog Stanzin Tsepag.
Khera emphasized that the party is prepared to pursue legal action regarding this matter.
“We are moving forward with legal recourse and potential criminal proceedings against all those who have not only sought to defame our party but also attempted to incite social unrest to exacerbate existing tensions. Rather than engaging responsibly with the disillusioned populace of Ladakh, the BJP and their media associates are indulging in their typical mud-slinging, attempting to exploit the anger of Ladakh residents and settle scores with their political adversaries,” he further elaborated on X.
The BJP IT cell head, Amit Malviya, had shared videos of Congress councillors, Smanla Dorsey Norboo and Tsering Namgyal, addressing the media with inflammatory remarks on September 23, just a day prior to the chaotic protests in Leh, which resulted in the destruction of property, including a CRPF vehicle and the BJP Leh office, alongside numerous other vehicles, forcing security forces to open fire.
Four protesters lost their lives and 70 others sustained injuries due to the gunfire, leading the District Magistrate to impose a curfew in Leh that has persisted for three consecutive days.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directly accused climate activist Sonam Wangchuk of inciting the protesters towards violence. Subsequently, the MHA revoked Wangchuk's FCRA registration, who is the founder of the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL).
A team of MHA officials convened a meeting with representatives from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) in Leh on Thursday to discuss the region's demands.
Meanwhile, police have filed 50 FIRs against individuals involved in the violent protests and those inciting such actions.
Authorities have detained several youths from Nepal and Doda, who were included among the stone-throwing protesters, with reports suggesting that the government is considering detaining the instigators of violence under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
