Los Angeles, July 9 (NationPress) English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who is receiving overwhelming acclaim for his latest track ‘Sapphire’, is venturing into new artistic territories.
The ‘Shape of You’ sensation has taken up painting as a “creative outlet” and has established a makeshift studio in an unused car park in central London, according to ‘Female First UK’.
At 34, the musician has shared that he has been creating art during breaks from his tours and is now gearing up to showcase his inaugural collection, which will contribute to his Ed Sheeran Foundation charity.
He commented, “I started painting after wrapping up my Divide Tour in 2019 and have since used it as a creative escape. Growing up with both parents in the art field piqued my interest, and I appreciated studying art in school. Last year, while touring, I utilized much of my free time in the UK to paint. Each morning, I would rush to a vacant car park in Soho to paint before heading home, continuing this routine until I went back on tour.”
As reported by ‘Female First UK’, the singer was motivated to exhibit his first collection by renowned artist Damien Hirst.
He further added, “I shared my paintings with my close friends Damien Hirst and Joe Hage, who encouraged me to pursue my own path. I decided to use this opportunity to raise funds for my Ed Sheeran Foundation, which champions music education in the UK and supports grassroots music initiatives, schools, and equipment, ensuring every child has access to music. I’m grateful to Damien and Joe for their support with this exhibition and thrilled to bring it to life.”
The collection, titled Cosmic Carpark Paintings, will be showcased at the HENI Gallery in London from July 11 until August 1. Half of the proceeds from the artwork sales will benefit Ed's charity.
A statement on the HENI website mentioned, “HENI is thrilled to present Ed Sheeran’s Cosmic Carpark Paintings, an exhibition of original canvas works alongside a collection of prints. This release provides the public with their first chance to acquire original pieces and edition prints by Ed Sheeran, aimed at raising funds for the Ed Sheeran Foundation, a UK-wide initiative dedicated to delivering inclusive, high-quality music education for every child.”
“The original artworks can be applied for on HENI Primary, while unique prints will be available for purchase on HENI Editions from July 10 to August 1, 2025. Ed Sheeran will donate his share of proceeds from each painting and print ($400 USD) to The Ed Sheeran Foundation,” they concluded.
