Did Emily Atack Suffer Assault on Television Sets?

Los Angeles, Sep 2 (NationPress) Actress-comedian Emily Atack has made some startling revelations regarding her experiences of sexual assault on television sets during her career.

The 35-year-old actress expressed her desire to create a documentary focused on intimacy coordinators after her positive experiences with them on the Disney+ series ‘Rivals’. She believes they have initiated a significant shift in behavior behind the scenes of various projects, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.

Emily, who hosted the 2023 BBC documentary ‘Emily Atack: Asking for It?’ addressing online sexual harassment, shared with Radio Times magazine, “I aim to develop a documentary about intimacy coordinators and will soon start discussions on this topic. I’ve noticed some skepticism towards them, with people saying, ‘I don’t require one’. There’s a sense of defensiveness, as if they are being accused of something uncommitted. Intimacy coordinators are essential for support if anyone feels uneasy, regardless of gender.”

She added, “I have faced sexual assault at work throughout my career, whether on set or during wrap parties – and since the #MeToo movement, it’s evident that people are starting to listen, and there’s a crucial need for a change in conduct on set.”

According to ‘Female First UK’, Emily expressed her pride in the cast and crew of ‘Rivals’ for their respectful handling of intimate scenes in the adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper’s novel, which received positive reviews upon its release last year.

She remarked, “I’m truly proud of the Rivals team because I haven’t always felt safe in my career, and we’ve maintained a respectful environment. We have numerous sexual scenes, and we are well looked after. It’s a genuinely positive development.”

Atack is currently starring in the new Channel 5 drama ‘The Rumour’, which revolves around a convicted child killer rumored to be residing in a small town. She revealed that portraying a mother in this series was particularly meaningful as she had recently given birth to her son Barney, who is now 14 months old, with her fiancé Alistair Garner.

She explained, “I had my baby just 10 weeks before filming, so I was exhausted, emotional, and still recovering from my caesarean. However, it was crucial for me to get back to work. In the past, I often wondered, ‘How do I convincingly play a mother? How do I express genuine love for this child?’ In ‘The Rumour’, my on-screen son Liam was incredibly sweet.”

“Even the smallest actions, like sending him off to school, adjusting his bag, and fixing his coat, were filled with sincere emotion because they resonate much deeper now that I have my own child,” she concluded.
